Soberanes Point Trail (Big Sur)
This is another hike that requires some adult help with so many little ones. Shane had to help Charlotte most of the way. Making sure she didn’t trip or fall down a cliff.

And then we had to piggy back her the last half of the hike. After we switched kids and I was piggy backing her she said, “Mommy, I so tired.”
And I’m thinking “You’re so tired?!!”. Apparently she said the same thing to Shane when he was carrying her.

Caleb and Ana did great! You can see here how it could be a dangerous hike for little ones. There’s no way we could have done this last year when Ana was 3. I think you definitely need one adult per child 3 and under for this hike. And even then, that would depend on the kid. I suspect Ana is slightly more agile than the average 4 year old.

The kids started to get tired and grumpy about half way through and there is, unfortunately, no convenient place to stop for a break and snack. So we just stopped along the trail.

Caleb is getting a safety lesson from Dad. You can never have too many safety lessons. Especially since we have to be so focused on the girls, we need to be able to count on Caleb to be as safe as possible.

After our break, the kids were reenergized enough to climb to the summit of the hill. It was strenuous for Ana but not too bad since it’s a short way. It was beautiful, even if a bit brown. It’ll look completely different after we’ve had a few good rains.

This is hike #97 from my Monterey Hikes list.
Hiking distance: 1.8 miles round trip
Hiking time: 1 hour
Configuration: Loop
Elevation gain: 200 feet
Difficulty: easy
Exposure: open coastal bluffs
Hiking buddies: The entire family (minus Coco)
Would you do it again? Maybe when the kids are older.
What would you do differently? Not walk along the highway on the way back.
Best for… Adults and older kids.
How lucky you are to be able to hike in such beautiful surroundings! Looks like great fun!
Yes, I feel really lucky to live here. And even luckier that after four years I’m finally choosing to see it all haha!
