Skyline Trail (Jack’s Peak County Park)

An easy hike perfect for small children and great for trail running. Offers amazing views without the climb.
Ecosystems: Monterey Pine forest.
Below is the Google Map location where we parked. If you’re using Apple Maps, use the following coordinates: 36.564064, -121.874945
Below are some wildflowers you may see. There were so many Sticky Monkey flower!
From the parking lot, the trail starts here to the right.

Early on there is a bench and look out.

The lookout has an amazing view of Monterey.

There is some uphill/downhill sections but none of them very steep.

The hills were actually quite inspiring for bursts of frolicking sprints.

Here we went straight on the Skyline trail.

This is probably the steepest section we came across, and it has stairs.

Views of Carmel and Point Lobos…

I counted three benches and at least one trash can on this hike.

There are several places to stop and enjoy the views. And all with minimally climbing since the trail head starts at highish elevation.

More Sticky Monkey flower!

We took a left turn here onto Iris trail, then it’s a short way to the parking lot.

Parking lot with bathroom, benches, and trash cans. Did I mention how perfect this hike is for little kids?
